There will be blind-peer reviewed presentations of about two hours in length, including time for participant discussion. The planning committee will be selecting presentations and workshops that address their subjects theoretically, clinically and experientially. Their preference will be for workshops that integrate these elements and that at least inlcude an experiential aspect. They may inlclude demonstrations, panels, video presentations, discussions, etc. Presentations will be taped and tapes will be available at the conference. Continuing education credit is offered to attendees.
The location is a phenomenal venue: the American Airlines Conference Center in Texas, 10 minutes south of the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. The facility provides free transportation to and from the airport. In addition, if 10 or more of our attendees use American Airlines to get to the conference American Airlines will offer us discounts on our flights. The site is on a 35 acre campus and, while it is not rural, it is quite convenient and beautiful. The Lodge section, where we will be staying and primarily meeting, is a Frank Lloyd Wright style building. It has 300 rooms, smaller and more efficient than usual hotel type rooms, facilities for tennis, a heated pool, its own bar, jogging trails, outdoor volleyball, facilities for an outdoor BBQ celebration, a beauty salon, massage spa, fully equipped workout rooms, aerobics classes from 6:15 AM, etc. The small bedrooms encourage people to congregate in the common spaces, which range from game rooms (ping pong, pool and video) to cozy indoor and outdoor seating areas, to the huge library area next to the lobby which has grouped comfortable seating areas for almost 100 people.
At this point all of our presentation rooms are in the Lodge, close together. The dining areas, exercise facilities, gathering areas and grounds are designed to hold us in a way our hotel locations were not. We will be about a 1/2 hour van, car or taxi ride from the centers of Dallas and Fort Worth, where American western cultures including Native American, Mexican, Cajun, cowboy and "black gold" manifests in restaurants, bars, nightclubs, rodeos music and museums.
Conference fee and room rate will lnclude: three meals per day, served in the Black Hawk Dining rom during two-hour blocks of time, continental breakfast each morning, two coffee breaks with snacks each day, and the use of the one site exercise room, aerobics classes, tennis and volley ball courts, heated pool (weather permitting), jogging trail and other amenities. Also included is free transportation to and from Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport. A tavern and snak bar (cash) are on site. (For those not stayng at the conference center, registration includes continental breakfast, lunch, two coffee breaks, and use of the facility, but not full breakfast or dinner.)
